Social Media for Gardeners: Twitter, Facebook and Blogs
Finding other gardeners online is a challenge, to say the least. Searches reveal little to no usable results and if there is a directory, I haven't found it. So today, I am posting the first of a two part series...
Kale: It's a Sneaky Vegetable
Now anyone who has listened to me espouse the virtues of growing and cooking kale, knows that I am nuts about this particular vegetable. First of all, it is insanely easy to grow...just plant the seeds in late winter and... Recent Posts

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful here in Portland. Now it's raining (of course). My neighbor Liz and I are yardsharing my large veggie garden area. Yesterday we planted outside for the first time. We put in peas, lettuce, spinach, kale, radishes, carrots, swiss chard, arugula, carrots and red mustard.
We are building out a Google Doc spreadsheet that I will make public once we have updated. This way, you all can find out what seeds we are using, planting dates, growing information, etc. And don't forget to visit Gardener to Farmer (http://www.gardenertofarmer.net) for posts and pictures of our organic gardening adventures!

Had a question about how I store potatoes. I do a couple of things to store...one is the basic keep it in a cool dark location...but if you harvest them all at once, this won't work for long. I also freeze them...here's what you need to know to do that. Cook them through and mash them. Then, store them in a vacuum sealed bag or freezer bag. You need to know that they will be a bit soggy when you un-thaw them. I find that adding a bit of olive oil to the skillet, then potatoes, butter and a splash of milk, then cooking down the liquid makes a very yummy side dish. It ends up tasting like twice baked potatoes.

Just had a question about the Chervil photo: Chervil is a delicate herb, a part of the carrot family, and tastes a bit like fennel. It is often used in French cooking...has a very delicate flavor, so add it at the last minute. It also doesn't like the heat, so if you are growing in the garden, must be early spring.
